Northwest Cardinal

By Chinaya Brown

In the serene silence of dawn

Through the foliage of nature

I approach and hear feathers rustle as you’ve gone,

Watching me drift by, you sing in harmony with your adventure.

On walks you accompany me

Whistling the worth of my being in your melody.

Reminding me I’m not alone, as my soul drifts to sea

As trivial thoughts contradict my fervency.

You evoke feelings of love and tenderness

Despite my shortcomings to sense such things.

But you soar over my meagerness,

Accepting me just as easily as your heart sings.

Days pass as I walk looking for you in the trees or sky

So continue to find me as I learn to live for the first time.
